Považské Museum in Žilina was founded in 1942 as the Municipal Museum, is located in the the area of cultural monument Budatín Castle, the museum manages more than 130 000 zoological, geological, botanical, historical, art, ethnographic, tinkers‘ and technical  items, focuses  primarily on the history of Slovak tinkers‘ craft at home and abroad, but also  focuses on the history of transport in Slovakia, manages the folk painted wooden houses in Čičmany (Raden’s house and  House No. 42), the  exhibition "Jánošík and Terchová",  Strečno Castle, Budatín Castle, the Wedding Palace in Bytča and the Transport Museum in Rajecké Teplice. The exhibition in Považské múzeum in Žilina shows 150 three-dimensional objects and fine artworks (for example wayfaring tinkers´ works, utility and decorative objects, childrens toys, unique sculptures, bidding lists and catalogues of the workrooms and period photographs). 
Budatin Castle is under reconstruction at the moment. Since 2014 the tower of the Budatin Castle has been open to the public. There is no wheelchair access  to the conference room of the Budatin Castle, exhibiton in Čičmany, in Terchová, Wedding Palace in Bytča and Strečno Castle.
